Bears Win Season’s Final Game

James drains the freethrow for the go-ahead point late in the 4th quarter.

The Bears triumphed over Seneca Two 50-45 last night in a nail-biter final game of the season.  James was perfect at the line with 4 of 4 attempts and also nailed the go-ahead point  in what seemed an unending barrage of fouls and lead changes during the fourth quarter. James also had the team high of 14 points scored, followed closely by Sam and Jimmy, each with 13. Loucas was nearly perfect on freethrows with 2 of 3 attempts made.

“I’m really proud of the way the guys didn’t give up, despite being down the first three quarters. They fought hard and came back to win it,” Coach Shep said.

The Bears now enter Tournament play with a match against Fair-Oak at Oakway Intermediate School Saturday, February 11 at 4:30. Go Bears!!

Bears Triumph in Walhalla!!!

The Cherokee Creek Bears upset Walhalla tonight in a 35-42 victory! Congratulations to the team and to Coaches Mike Shepherd and Chris Leamons for their leadership. The boys are completely psyched! Their coaches are very happy and the cheering section, which included a parent and Executive Director David LePere are all very proud. David says, “This was the best team play I’ve seen all season!”

2012 Basketball Season Opener

The Bears headed onto the court in Walhalla last night looking confident and skilled. Their practice has clearly paid off! The Bears lead the game at the end of the 1st quarter by one point (7-8) and came in just one point back at the half (15-14). The opposing team had a nice scoring streak in the third quarter ending it with a 29-18 lead, but the Bears stayed with it and continued to put points on the board, ending with a 42-30 loss to Walhalla. This was a very good season opener – one to be very proud of! Check out the photos below.

Special thanks to family and staff who made it to cheer on and support the team! GO BEARS!!

The Bears Blowout

What a great weekend! Our innagural Bears Blowout Sports Banquet and Father Son Event was a hit with students, families and staff.

Friday evening we celebrated with a steak dinner complete wit live music! After dinner our athletes were honored individually by Coaches Kory Byrd and Yanic McDowell for their contributions to the soccer and basketball teams as they recived their trophies. The evening wrapped up with fun drills and games with the coaches running everyone through their paces!

Saturday’s rain moved us inside for basketball. Everyone modeled incredible flexibility and “open to outcome” positive attitudes as we implemented a rainy day “Plan B.”

Check out the pictures below and stay tuned for another chance for Father Son Football late this summer!

    If The Shoe Fits…

Dylan gets fitted for basketball shoes

Earlier this week, boys interested in playing on this year’s basketball team had a new and different shoe shopping experience – the store came to them! Coaches Kory Byrd and Yanic McDowell invited a local sports retailer to come out to campus for fittings. As a result, each student had the opportunity to try a couple of different styles and work with a specialist to ensure a good fit.

We are anxious to see this year’s game schedule and will post it as soon as we get it!

    Go Bears!
