Students Raise $300 For Local Humane Society

Devon and Ethan man the table

One of our holiday season traditions here at Cherokee Creek Boys School is the Oconee Humane Society (OHS) fundraiser at Tractor Supply in Seneca, SC. This event was started by Weekend Manager William Carpenter, who routinely volunteers time at OHS.

Students sold hot dogs, chips, sodas and hot chocolate in addition to accepting donations of pet food and supplies. All donations, totalling about $300 were then deliverd to the OHS before returning to campus. Thanks to Treks Staff Paul Mathis and Royce Johnson for supervising this year’s event and thanks to Tractor Supply for, again, allowing students to set up camp right out front.

Other weekend activities included bowling, trips to the recreation fields for soccer and football scrimmages, the “Trotting ‘Round the Tree” horse show at Clemson University and the Nutcracker Ballet at the Clemson University Brooks Center. Students also “decked the halls” with a Christmas tree and placed lights and garland throughout the Lodge. Very festive!

If The Shoe Fits…

Dylan gets fitted for basketball shoes

Earlier this week, boys interested in playing on this year’s basketball team had a new and different shoe shopping experience – the store came to them! Coaches Kory Byrd and Yanic McDowell invited a local sports retailer to come out to campus for fittings. As a result, each student had the opportunity to try a couple of different styles and work with a specialist to ensure a good fit.

We are anxious to see this year’s game schedule and will post it as soon as we get it!

Go Bears!

Visit From Local Women’s Group

Jon, Alex, Drew and Ben host members of the Seneca Women's Study Club

A note to Therapist Jane Barker from one a member of the Seneca Women’s Study Club after their visit on Thursday afternoon (October 21st):

“Thanks so much for a wonderful, heart-warming visit at the Cherokee Creek Boys School yesterday. The members of the Seneca Women’s Study Club appreciated meeting your boys and touring the campus. We were impressed with the enthusiasm, manners and behavior of your students. They made it clear that you and the staff are doing a terrific job of helping them deal with their issues and make a ‘new life’ for themselves. This will surely help them mature into productive, happy young men. Bravo!”
